A map of site irreplaceability for the CFR. Areas (planning units
comprising 1/16° cells) where existing reserves cover >50% of the
area are regarded as mandatory reserves. Totally irreplaceable units
include areas of habitat that are essential to meet reservation
targets, whereas units where irreplaceability is zero comprise habitat
for which reservation targets have been achieved. The analysis, driven
by explicit reservation targets for 88 Broad Habitat Units (BHUs), and
mapped at 1:250,000 (56), was undertaken by using
C-PLAN, a decision support system linked to a
geographic information system (53).
