Examples of the reactions catalyzed by AKR1C3 and a schematic of the 3-phenoxybenzoic acid molecule. Testosterone is formed from Δ4-androstenedione and 9α,11β-PGF2 from PGD2 by AKR1C3-catalyzed reduction of the 17-carbonyl and 9-carbonyl groups, respectively.
