Reduced cardiac hypertrophy in MyD88−/− hearts after MI. (A) Cardiac hypertrophy was measured as ratio of heart weight and tibia length 3 weeks after MI in WT and MyD88−/− (n= 16 hearts each group; *P = 0.02). (B) H & E staining of tissue sections from WT and MyD88−/− hearts 3 weeks after MI (Scale bars= 50 µm). Cross-section area from WT (n= 276 cells) and MyD88−/− (n=296 cells) cardiomyocytes was determined (C). MyD88−/− had significantly less hypertrophy (***P < 0.0001). Expression of hypertrophy marker genes for α-MHC (Myh6; D), β-MHC (Myh7; E), atrial natriuretic factor (Nppa; F), and skeletal muscle α-actin 1 (Acta1; G) was determined by qPCR in control (Ctr) and after 1 week or 3 week of MI. In each group, 3 hearts were used and expression was compared by ΔΔCT method using Gapdh as ‘loading control’.
