Transcripts C, D and E lack the canonical exon −1 and instead contain an alternative exon −1 (indicated with an arrow). Evidence for a PIK3CD transcript with an additional upstream exon that is spliced between exons −2a and −1 and that is located 23 kb upstream of exon −2e in the genome was found in an EST isolated from pre-B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia cells (GenBank® accession number BE246970; not shown).
