Table 1.

After 60 min of incubation, intermediates in glycolysis, the TCA cycle, and the pentose phosphate shunt did not affect the accumulation of 45Ca2+.

Substrate Percent of control
GLYCOLYSIS
Glucose 93 ± 6.04
Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate 109 ± 7.27
Pyruvate 110 ± 7.42
TCA CYCLE
Aspartate 93 ± 2.81
Malate 100 ± 2.34
Oxaloacetate 95 ± 6.60
Glutamate 94 ± 6.60
PENTOSE PHOSPHATE SHUNT
Phosphogluconic acid 97 ± 9.76
Gluconolactone 104 ± 6.72

Separate addition of nine different metabolites (10 mM, each) involved in three pathways dependent on G6P demonstrated that none significantly altered (p > 0.05) the accumulation of calcium. Data are presented as means of percent of control ± SEM for n =4. Each microsomal preparation contained a minimum of eight whole brains pooled together.
