Whereas classical BSE, classical scrapie, CJD and CWD in elk remain relatively stable, 5 % SLS considerably destabilizes aggregates of atypical BSE, atypical/Nor98 scrapie and CWD in white-tailed deer for pK digestion. Brain samples were prepared in PBS either with or without 2 % or 5 % of SLS. Proteinase K digestion was performed for 30 minutes at a final concentration of 50 to 1600 μg/ml pK with the exception of atypical/Nor98 scrapie, where a graded series of 6.25 to 50 μg/ml pK was used (see also fig. 4/B).
