The therapeutic period of 48 weeks starts after 3 years of untreated infection (day 1096). The optimal therapy is shown in the figure. At the end of the 48 weeks of therapy we inject a fixed amount of bacteria in the virtual patient, challenging his immune system. The patient dies if the antigens exceed a threshold of 4×106 bacteria/ml. An efficient therapy is capable of restoring the patient's immune system enough to contain the bacterial infection.
