Mtap1a modifies photoreceptor cell loss in Tubtub/tub retinas (A). Previous QTL studies suggested a retinal-protective locus on chromosome 2, similar to findings with Tulp1 (reprinted with permission from the International Society for Eye Research/Elsevier Publishers34). Retinal micrographs reveal fewer ONL nuclei in Tubtub/tub mice lacking a transgenic copy of the 129P2/OlaHsd Mtap1amoth1-r gene (tg−, B) than in those containing the transgene (tg+, C).
