The temporal envelope was extracted by calculating the RMS power of the broad-band sound wave, following the procedure described by (Lalor & Foxe, 2010). Bottom: A typical spectrum of the temporal envelope of speech, averaged over 8 token of natural conversational speech, each one ~10 seconds long.
