Line 1 (red) pertains to the dust-laden clouds on March 17, 1998; line 2 (blue) pertains to the dust-free clouds on March 16, 1998. For comparison, clouds formed in smoke are presented in line 3 (black), as measured and validated by aircraft on May 2, 1998 in Thailand (11).
