Orientation of substrates and retention of configuration in the B12-dependent rearrangement of the carbon skeleton of acyl-CoA esters. The observed isomerization of the 3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA enantiomers catalyzed by HCM is compared with transformations catalyzed by MCM/ECM and ICM/IcmF.
