BLM studies of paenilide-induced electric conductivity of the lipid membrane in K+- and Na+-containing buffers. Changes in the electric conductivity of a lipid membrane, consisting of extracted RLM lipids with cardiolipin added, in response to added paenilides or cereulides was measured by using the BLM technique. (A) Time course of BLM electric conductivity induced by paenilides at 10 ng ml−1. The external chamber medium contained 20 mM Tris-HCl (pH 7.4) with 100 mM KCl or 100 mM NaCl, and the applied voltage was 100 mV. (B) Electric conductivity of the BLM in response to added concentrations of paenilides or cereulides in 100 mM KCl. Mean values and SE from three experiments are shown.
