Agonistic antibodies to CD40 can substitute for CD4 T cells in preventing reactivation of MHV-68 in CD4 T cell-deficient mice. MHC Class II −/− mice were infected with 2 × 104 pfu MHV-68 intranasally, and 100 μg FGK-45 anti-CD40 was injected i.v. on days 1 and 15 after infection. Control animals received Rat Ig (day 35) or IgG2a isotype control antibody (all other time points). Lung virus titers were determined by plaque assay at day 7, 15, 35, 50, and 60 days after infection. The limit of detection was 10 pfu/0.1 g lung tissue. Data are expressed as log10 pfu/0.1 g of lung tissue for individual mice.
