T4SS⁺ Mc do not show Ton-independent intracellular survival. ME180 epithelial cells were infected with Mc at an MOI of 10 for 3 h followed by a 1-h treatment with 25 μg/ml gentamicin (Gm). Measurements were taken at 0, 4, and 24 h after Gm treatment. Before each additional time point, wells were treated a second time with Gm. Each experiment was performed in triplicate, with each value shown being the geometric mean from at least three independent experiments.
