Prolonged interaction of UCB with the HBMEC monolayer decreases TEER and increases paracellular permeability to sodium fluorescein. HBMEC line was incubated without (control) or with 50 or 100 μM UCB, in the presence of 100 μM HSA, for the indicated incubation periods. TEER, expressed as fold change from control readings (A), and the transendothelial permeability (Pe) to sodium fluorescein (B) are shown.
