The interface between the transport and the trimerization domain (TTDI) shows water penetrating in the intermediates but much less so in the end-point conformations. The TTDI is shown for monomer A of the simulated OfCC (a), MDi.4 (b), and IfCC (c) from the structures shown in Figure 4. Explicit water molecules within 8 Å of residues 15–30 (TM1) and 207–216 (TM5) are visualized as red–white sticks; computed water pores are rendered as surfaces colored from purple via cyan to blue to represent small to large pore radii. Residues 36–45 (TM2) and 190–222 (TM5) are omitted for clarity.
