The data summarize the number of colonies obtained after each round of selection. The colony number was calculated for MOI = 700 transductions by measuring the average number of colonies per cm². For MOIs of 3500 and 7000, colonies were counted directly. Resistance phenotypes of isolated colonies to AAV5 transduction (two columns at right) were determined by transduction with AAV encoding β-galactosidase and the titer compared to that of the parent cells. Resistance to AAV5 is defined as a >10-fold decrease in transduction with AAV5β-gal. Two parallel selections were performed at round 4.
