Comparative release of 25 mg/mL doxorubicin from the various DEB size ranges as measured by a USP II method using PBS as elution medium under sink conditions at 25°C. Release is a function of the surface area to volume ratio. Under these conditions, release can be modeled as approximating to first order [34]. Whilst useful for product development and QC purposes, this elution test is non-predictive for in vivo drug release, which has been demonstrated to occur over many weeks to months [73, 75].
