Role of quorum sensing in motility. (a) Overnight cultures of wild-type M2 and an isogenic autoinducer synthase mutant (abaI : : Km) were grown overnight in 3 ml LB broth and adjusted to the same optical density with sterile LB. A 1 µl drop was applied to an LB agar plate containing 0.35 % Eiken agar with and without 500 nM 3-OH C12-HSL (AHL) and incubated for 12 h at 30 °C.
