The L. monocytogenes prfA P219S mutant is hypervirulent in vivo. Swiss Webster mice were intravenously infected with 2×10⁴ c.f.u. through the tail vein. The livers and spleens were harvested 48 h post-infection, homogenized and enumerated for bacterial burdens. Each data point represents one mouse and the solid lines denote the median for each data group. Data were obtained from two independent experiments.
