The metabolite ratio infected/mock is given as the mean value of three independent experiments ± SE. In each experimental replicate, four biological replicates were analyzed. Leaves of infected and mock control leaves were harvested at the indicated time points after infection with the respective pathogens (Bgh, Blumeria graminis f.sp. hordei; Cg, Colletotrichum graminicola; Um, Ustilago maydis). Metabolites with an average f.c. > 1.25 at any biotrophic interaction time point are displayed. p-Values were calculated employing a Welch–Satterthwaite t-test and for multiple testing correction of p-values, Benjamini–Hochberg false discovery rate (FDR) was determined (adj p-value).
