Analysis of the chromosome 7 shared Alu insertion using polymerase chain reaction. The Alu insertion is shared among Hominidae (the great apes) and absent from other extant primates. The filled site is approximately 707 bp (lanes 3 to 8) and the empty site is 390 bp (lanes 9 to 13).
