In this image a large amount of isolated flattened cardiac cells almost fill the area around an aggregate. Connections and projections between the 2D-cells and the 3D-aggregate can be noted (a–b). Discrete lines indicating intimate contacts among the cells in the aggregate are clearly seen in image (b).
