Deletion effects on the survival and birth weight of the mouse. Male (A) and female (B) heterozygotes were individually bred with their wild-type littermates for the paternal and maternal transmission of the KO allele. The pups derived from these crosses were analyzed in terms of their litter sizes, mendelian ratios and birth weight percentiles. Birth weight percentiles were calculated by dividing the weight of each pup by the average weight of the litter. The pups inheriting the KO allele paternally showed much lower body weights than their littermates. The values on the X-axis indicate percentile scores, while the values on the Y-axis indicate the number of mice.
