When two genes with substantially the same sequence are present in the cell, cross-over (x marks) occurs by homologous recombination within a plasmid or between plasmids, shown here by the example of WB-BN. Only recombinant homodimeric construct with wild-type sequence remained at a significant level when grown photosynthetically. All the PCR products in the major bands contained coding for the strep-tag.
