Soluble cytokine and chemokine production in macrophage-like THP-1 cells treated with Stx1 and triptolide. Cells were stimulated with Stx1 (400 ng/ml) in the presence or absence of triptolide (0.05 μM) for 24 h. IL-1β (A), IL-8 (B), MIP-1β (C), and TNF-α (D) levels were measured in supernatants collected from cells using a sandwich ELISA. Standards provided with the kits were used to calculate soluble cytokine/chemokine protein amounts. Values are given as pg/ml and expressed as the mean ± standard error of three independent experiments. Statistical significance was calculated using one-way ANOVA (P value versus control, #, <0.05; ##, <0.01; P value versus Stx1, **, <0.01).
