DACTAL algorithmic design. DACTAL can begin with an initial tree (bottom triangle), or through a technique that divides the unaligned sequence dataset into overlapping subsets. Each subsequent DACTAL iteration uses a novel decomposition strategy called PRD to divide the dataset into small, overlapping subsets, estimates trees on each subset, and merges the small trees into a tree on the entire dataset.
