Nuclear egress complementation. Vero cells were mock transfected or transfected with a plasmid encoding VP1/2C fused to the mCherry red fluorescent protein (indicated by row labeled VP1/2C). Cells were subsequently infected with recombinant PRV expressing GFP-tagged capsids and encoding either wild-type VP1/2 (indicated by row labeled WT VP1/2) or a deletion allele (indicated by row labeled VP1/2-null). Capsid nuclear egress was scored based on the presence of cytoplasmic capsids that were identified as fluorescent punctae. Cells were scored as positive if five or more capsids were visible within the cytoplasm. Two separate time periods were examined, 8 to 11 and 11 to 14 h postinfection.
