The vitreopapillary adhesion, defined as a prominent vitreous membrane attached to the borders of the optic disc (a), enhances the tangential traction on the macula (b). The intra-retinal split (c), observed between the outer plexiform layer and the outer nuclear layer, is in line with the traction induced by the vitreopapillary adhesion.
