The role of SCAMPs, retrospective studies, and prospective studies. A schematic representation of how SCAMPs fit in the overall paradigm of descriptive (retrospective) and prescriptive (prospective) study design. SCAMPs, as a quality improvement initiative, can be an integral tool in the generation of data than can lead to better retrospective and/or prospective research studies. When “truth” is known from a compilation of data from all three methods, then a clinical practice guideline can be created and implemented.
