Spontaneous diabetes is reduced upon systemic CA treatment. NOD females (n = 7) were implanted with a 14-day sustain-release CA pellet (2.1 mg/kg/day) biweekly, and control NOD mice (n = 14) were left untreated. Pellet implantation was stopped at 29 weeks of age. Diabetes was monitored by blood glucose, with two consecutive readings of >300 mg/dL indicating overt disease.
