Persistence of males over time in populations after the Chunking Experiment. The mean proportion of males (Y-axis) over time (X-axis) is given. Every four days the populations were reduced to 150 individuals and transferred to new plates. The error bars indicate standard errors. All experiments were started with populations containing approximately 50% males. The first actual measurement was done after the first generation at day 3. For the experimental and the control treatments each point is the average of two independent measurements for each of the 3 replicates of the Chunking Experiment. Two independent, male maintenance assays for each of N2 and CB4856 were done in parallel as experimental controls. The average of these two measurements is shown.
