Observed initial rates for RRE RNA modification by M-chelate-Rev and coreactants H2O2/ascorbate were found to be highest for M-chelate complexes with reduction potentials lying between those of ascorbyl radical/ascorbate (−66 mV) and H2O2/hydroxyl radical (380 mV), indicated by the vertical dashed lines.
