A revised coupling between synaptic activity and glucose metabolism. Glucose uptake (green) is now ubiquitous. Astrocytic lactate flow (orange) to neurons is now less, with a small amount being effluxed to blood. ATP is produced oxidatively (orange) in neurons and astrocytes.
