Mössbauer spectra (vertical bars) of wild-type DvFtn loaded with various substoichiometric amounts of Fe. The spectra are recorded at 4.2 K in a parallel field of 50 mT (left panel) or 8 T (right panel). The samples were loaded with 62Fe/24-mer (A and E), 31Fe/24-mer (B and F) and 16Fe/24-mer (C and G). The 16Fe/24-mer sample was reduced by sodium dithionite and spectra of the reduced sample are shown in D (50 mT) and H (8T). The color lines are simulations of the diamagnetic diferrous center (green), mixed valence Fe2+Fe3+ center (red) and mononuclear Fe2+ species (blue), using parameters listed in Table 1. They are plotted according to the percent absorptions listed in Table 2. The black solid lines overlaid with the experimental data are composite spectra of the simulated spectra shown.
