Female sperm storage after sexual transmission of peptidoglycan (PGN). Females mated with males whose genitalia were dipped in PGN exhibited in increasing lack of sperm in the seminal receptacle over time. Furthermore, a higher proportion of PGN females lacked sperm compared with the controls 48 h after mating. Means connected by the same letter are not statistically different (α = 0.05).
