Panel A shows accumulation of sulfur, in panel B formation of sulfate is depicted. Cells of A. vinosum wild type (•), A. vinosum ΔdsrE+dsrE78FH (□), A. vinosum ΔdsrE+dsrEFH20 (Δ) and A. vinosum ΔdsrE+dsrE78FH20 (◊) were grown photolithoautotrophically with 2 mM sulfide as sole electron source. Discrepancy of sulfate and initially supplied sulfide is due to loss of gaseous sulfide. Protein concentrations increased from approximately 90 to 140 µg/ml in all cultures.
