Stress-induced p38/JNK activation enhances Sp1/Sp3 binding to the proximal GC boxes that triggers CPI-17 transcription, whereas PDGF-induced ERK1/2 activation represses the signal. There is a repressor element (R) in mouse and human CPI-17 promoters.
