The solid line indicates the threshold between a mosaic state and the conditions where seagrass is completely grazed down in autumn. A state with an elevated bed level and low grazing is the only possible state below and right of the dashed line. Default parameter settings are indicated by the black dot. The effect of sedimentation rate was analysed in the range of 0.05 to 1.13 mm day−1, bird densities were tested in the range of 0.001 to 2 ind m−2. Note that formation of mosaics is not possible in the absence of sedimentation and/or birds.
