Groups of four BALB/c or three SCID mice were inoculated with 105 spirochetes of the wild-type, cheA2mut, or cheA2com strain. Mice were sacrificed at 3 weeks postinoculation, and ear, skin, and tibiotarsal joint specimens were harvested for spirochete culture in BSK-II medium.
