Red Flags for Diversion or Misue

  • Symptoms of intoxication or withdrawal

  • Demands for a particular, usually fast acting, medication (amphetamine IR)

  • “Extended-release doesn’t work for me”

  • Repeated lost prescriptions

  • Discordant pill count

  • Excessive preoccupation with securing medication supply

  • Multiple prescribers

  • New development of cardiac symptoms

  • New onset psychosis
