Both Mqo and Lqo are required for full virulence in S. aureus. Eight female C57BL/6 mice (two independent experiments each involving four mice per group) were inoculated i.v. with 5 × 10⁶ cfu of S. aureus strain Newman or isogenic mutants. Weight loss was documented and mice losing ≥30% of their body weight at the time of inoculation were sacrificed as per approved IACUC protocols.
