It is hypothesized that Ca2+ increases generated during formation of hippocampus-dependent memory activate CaM-stimulated adenylyl cyclases and that this cAMP signal supports the activation and nuclear translocation for MAPK and subsequent stimulation of CREB-mediated transcription through MSK1.
