The reduction in strength after normalizing for the effect of the 6% decrease in volume fraction (⨂S/⨂SBV/TV, see Figure 2) depended on anatomic site when resorption cavities were targeted to highly-strained tissue (a p<0.05 vs. canine vertebra) but not when they were distributed randomly. A value of one indicates the change in strength is due entirely to the change in volume fraction. Data given as mean ± 95% CI.
