When a motor head (blue dot) attaches to the filament (yellow rod) or steps along this filament, the motor stalk (blue spring) is stretched to an end-to-end vector Inline graphic. The force-extension relation of the motor stalk specifies a corresponding load force Inline graphic generated in the motor stalk. This stalk then acts as a spring which transmits this load force onto the filament. The component Inline graphic parallel to the filament also affects the motor head velocity.
