Growth profiles of (A) RIK1051 (aprE::Pspac-yjbM), (B) RIK1052 (aprE::Pspac-ywaC), (C) RIK1059 (aprE::Pspac-yjbM relA::erm ΔyjbM ywaC::cat), and (D) RIK1066 (aprE::Pspac-ywaC relA::erm ΔyjbM ywaC::cat) in LB medium. Cells were inoculated into LB medium and grown at 37°C with shaking. When the optical density at 600 nm (OD₆₀₀) reached ca. 0.2 (at times indicated by the arrows), IPTG was added to the culture to a final concentration of 1 mM and cell growth was monitored by measuring OD₆₀₀ of the culture: cells with (?) or without (○) IPTG. (E) Growth curve of a wild-type strain (168) of Bacillus subtilis. Cells were incubated in LB medium at 37°C with shaking and were collected at the indicated times after inoculation for measurement of OD_600.
