Low back symptoms defined as pain aching or stiffness on most days. BMI=body mass index. OA=osteoarthritis. SD=standard deviation. Proportions for symptoms, knee, hip and hand OA differ from column due to missing data. Disc space narrowing coded based upon subjects most severe level. Knee and hip OA defined as Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) score of 2-4. Hand OA defined as the presence of KL grade 2-4 in at least one distal interphalangeal joint and 2 other interphalangeal joints or carpometacarpal joints.
