Opticin inhibits collagen type I and MatrigelTM-stimulated angiogenesis in vitro. Opticin (250 nm) significantly decreased FGF-2-stimulated HUVEC capillary morphogenesis in collagen type I (A) (*, p < 0.001) and in MatrigelTM (B) (*, p = 0.002). However, opticin had no significant effect (NS) on capillary morphogenesis in fibrin matrices (C), whereas cyclic RGD (cRGD), used as a positive control, produced a significant decrease in network length (*, p < 0.001).
