Bacterial colonization of full-thickness wounds after inoculation with S aureus (n = 16 mice). Wounds were inoculated with 2.5 × 105 CFU/cm2 S aureus and left uncovered. Wounds were harvested up to 4 days postinoculation for bacterial quantification. Control mice were inoculated with saline (n = 4 mice).
