Degradation of mRNA is directly related to cleavage site number. Target mRNAs were induced in E. coli for 30 min prior to MazF-cd induction for the times shown. Total RNA was extracted from cells harvested at each time point, and mRNA stability was monitored by RT-PCR. Data are representative of at least two independent experiments.
